7 1/2 Habits and Me

The drive to learn is something that comes naturally to me, even if what I'm trying to learn does not. For example, I would love to learn how to play a musical instrument. I have taken lessons to learn piano and bass guitar, but I struggled with both. I know that the major obstacle to my learning to play is myself. I have no high-flying notions that I will be a great musician, and that is not my goal, but I would like to achieve even a semblance of mediocrity. I can never seem to get over that first hump, though.

As part of SCLD's Learning 2.0 project, I read/listened to 7 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners. What I found was that I had strong lifelong learning skills, but my weakest area was with Habit 3: Viewing problems as challenges. Learning a musical instrument is a perfect case in point. Sometimes it's hard for me to get over that initial hump that slows my learning down. As for my strongest area, I would say Habit 2: Accepting responsibility for my own learning - because let's face it, no one is going to learn for you.
